I’m a first-generation Filipino immigrant with a background in arts, storytelling, and community-centered work.
Say it in Tagalog is my love letter to our language — and to the generations finding their way back to it. It’s a gentler approach to (re)connecting with Tagalog and Filipino culture, rooted in conversation, creativity, curiosity, and emotional connection.
My hope is that you leave this space feeling more connected to yourself, your roots, and the generations before you — one meaningful word at a time.
Belonging before fluency.
For many of us, losing the language meant losing a piece of ourselves.
Coming back to it is about more than words. Say it in Tagalog is about coming home to yourself — to your history, your family, your identity. Knowing where you come from is part of knowing who you are.
WORD OF THE WEEK
Gigil
adjective ▪️ /gee-gill/The overwhelming, almost uncontrollable urge to squeeze or pinch something unbearably cute. There’s no English word for this. Tagalog has always known things other languages haven’t caught up to yet.
